We also have blueberries.   The blueberry is a close relative of cranberry, both being the genuis,Vaccinium . The blueberry planting on our farm was established in the late 1800's, about the same time as the first cranberry bogs on the farm.  The blueberry planting consist of 1/8 acre highbush blueberries of mixed varieties.
There are three varieties currently at the farm; Rubel, Wareham and Pioneer. Rubel, a selection from the wild introduced in 1912.  Rubel is a mid to late variety with good size, color and little scaring.  The flavor of Rubel is considered good; Wareham, a cross between Rubel and Harding introduced in 1936. Wareham’s are a late variety with medium size, good color, light scaring and excellent flavor; Pioneer is a cross between Brooks and Sooy introduced in 1920.  Pioneer is an early to mid season variety with good size, color and very good flavor.
